About

My blog “Cúpla Focal” is dedicated to everything and anything to do with the Irish language, ranging from the random and mundane to the more serious and complex. Cúpla Focal literally means “a few words”. It is the term used to describe Irish speakers who arent fluent but have a few words to get by.

As is obvious from my chosen topic I have a great love for the Irish language. I think it is such a fundamental part of what makes us “Irish”, and in an ever-shrinking world this is something that I cherish. ..And it really is such a fun language to have- particularly when travelling…ever tried to teach an Australian on a beach in Thailand how to say “conas atá tú”?!

The tone of my blog is not serious. It simply aims to provide a forum where either silly and trivial, or serious and complex matters relating to the Irish language can be discussed. Since I began working on the blog in November I have realised that the language is much more alive and kicking than I had previously thought.

Bainigí taitneamh as! Enjoy!
